1. These terms, and who we are

Tiny Beacon is a family-safety app for parents and legal guardians, operated by Amir Ariff bin Abdul Hadi (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia) — “we”, “us”, or “Tiny Beacon”. These Terms of Service (“terms”) are the agreement between you and us for your use of the Tiny Beacon app and the tiny-beacon.com website (together, the “service”).

By creating an account, or by accepting these terms in the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. This is Version 1.0.0 of these terms — the version identifier you accept in the app is recorded with your account.

Our Privacy policy explains what data the service handles and how; it forms part of these terms.

2. What Tiny Beacon is

Tiny Beacon helps a parent or legal guardian stay connected with their own children: shared live location within your family, safe-zone arrival and exit alerts, screen-time limits, emergency check-ins, and safety alerts. It is designed around openness within the family — a child’s device always shows when location sharing is on — and around parental consent, captured before any feature that involves a child’s information is switched on.

3. Who may use it — eligibility and accounts

  • You must be an adult. Accounts are created and held by a parent or legal guardian aged 18 or over. We confirm this with a date-of-birth age gate at sign-up.
  • Children do not hold accounts. A child uses Tiny Beacon only through a child profile that their parent or guardian creates, pairs, and controls.
  • Your authority. You confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of each child you add, or that you otherwise have the legal authority to make these decisions for them.
  • Your account. Keep your sign-in credentials to yourself, and tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. You are responsible for activity under your account.

4. Children and parental consent

Features that involve a child’s information — location sharing, screen-time limits, emergency features — are off until the account-holding parent consents in the app. You can review, change, or withdraw consent at any time from the app’s settings; withdrawing consent stops further collection and triggers deletion of the associated child data, as described in the Privacy policy. We keep a record of what was consented to, which versions of these terms and the Privacy policy were accepted, and when — this record-keeping is designed around the requirements of the United States’ Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA).

5. Acceptable use

Tiny Beacon exists to help families care for their own children, openly. You agree to use it only that way. In particular, you must not:

  • use the service to observe, locate, or track any adult, or any child you do not have legal authority over — regardless of consent screens you may be able to click through;
  • use the service covertly against another person, or in any way that violates anti-stalking, surveillance, wiretap, or data-protection laws in your country;
  • resell the service, or use it to provide monitoring of people outside your family;
  • attempt to break, probe, or overload our systems, bypass security or Row Level Security protections, or access another family’s data;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or copy the app, except where the law expressly permits;
  • use the service in a way that harms a child, including using safety features to harass, control, or intimidate.

We may suspend or close accounts used in these ways (section 11).

6. Safety features are aids — not guarantees

We build Tiny Beacon carefully, but you must not rely on it as your only safeguard:

  • Tiny Beacon is not an emergency service. It does not replace 999 (Malaysia), 112, or your local emergency number. If you believe a child is in danger, contact emergency services first.
  • Alerts, location updates, and emergency notifications depend on things outside our control: device battery and settings, network coverage, operating-system restrictions, and push-notification delivery by Apple and Google. They can be delayed, and sometimes they can fail to arrive.
  • Location readings come from the device’s operating system and can be inaccurate, stale, or unavailable (indoors, underground, in flight mode).
  • Screen-time enforcement uses the operating system’s own controls and has the limits those controls have.
  • Tiny Beacon supports your supervision; it does not replace it.

7. Fees

The public Tiny Beacon app is currently provided free of charge. We have announced planned paid tiers, including Family and Extended, shown on our pricing page) that are not yet available— until a paid plan launches and you actively choose it, nothing is chargeable. When paid plans launch, the price and terms will be shown before you pay, and nothing you already use free will silently become chargeable — you will always be able to choose.

8. Your content and data

You keep all rights to the information you and your family put into Tiny Beacon. You give us permission to process it only as needed to run the service for you, as described in the Privacy policy. We do not sell it, and we do not use children’s information for advertising.

9. Our intellectual property

The Tiny Beacon app, website, name, logo, and design are ours (or our licensors’). We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the app on your own devices for your family’s use, subject to these terms and the Apple App Store / Google Play terms that also apply to apps you install from those stores.

10. Supervised and enterprise editions

Separate supervised and enterprise editions of Tiny Beacon exist for managed-device scenarios. They are provided only under a distinct written agreement — not through the public app stores — and that agreement, not these terms, governs their additional capabilities. The public app does only what the Privacy policy describes.

11. Suspension and ending the agreement

  • You can leave at any time. Delete your account in the app (Settings → Privacy & data controls) or via tiny-beacon.com/delete-account. Deletion permanently removes your family’s data as described in the Privacy policy.
  • We can suspend or close an account if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken — especially section 5 — or where we must do so by law. Where reasonable, we will warn you first and explain.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive (8, 9, 12, 13, 14) survive the end of the agreement.

12. Disclaimers and liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we make no guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free (see section 6);
  • we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control (including failures of networks, devices, or app-store push infrastructure);
  • our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim (or RM100, if you have paid nothing).

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights you have under Malaysian law that cannot be excluded or limited — including under the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and the PDPA — or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, such as for fraud.

13. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms materially, we will bump the version number, update the date on this page, notify parent accounts in the app, and ask you to accept the new version before continuing to use features the change affects. The version you accepted is always recorded with your account.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia have exclusive jurisdiction — without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you where you live.
